My Museum
Fish Form
Translucent dark blue glass; cast, wheel-cut and polished
1st Century, probably Italy
Believed to be a serving cover that would have been lifted to reveal cooked fish
Corning Museum of Glass, Corning, NY
photo by Mario Carrieri for Olivetti
I tore this picture out of a magazine in 1987.

This fish is amazing. I am often able to get close to the Corning Museum of Glass, but somehow I never manage to actually visit it. I even forked over the extra money for an art museum membership that included reciprocal privileges at many museums, including Corning. Anyway, thanks for reminding me that I still need to go there.
ReplyDeleteI hope you'll get to go. Their website has some great things on view, and I'm sure the in-person experience would be fun.
ReplyDeletea most excellent fish!
